About Us

Company

  • Atomik is an employee-run company that manufactures all of our products in Provo, Utah.
  • Manufacturing since 2002, we've created over 2,000,000 climbing holds.
  • As of 2019, Atomik's fail rate is only 0.00001% (1 in 10,000), and if this happens, it is usually a crooked washer or a tower not being drilled out and never a structural issue. Our lifetime warranty is rarely used.
  • Our current manufacturing capacity is $400,000 USD/month.
  • Atomik loves the environment, and we show it by utilizing a waterless production system and paperless invoicing.

Product

  • Atomik Climbing Holds are made with polyurethane resin, which is completely inert and harmless to humans and animals. During the manufacturing process, zinc grade 8 washers are embedded into the holds.
  • Our products are seen on NBC's American Ninja Warrior, in commercial and home climbing gyms, in schools from primary level education to Ivy League, commercial playgrounds, amusement parks, ropes challenge courses, CrossFit, Ninja/Parkour facilities, and even US and Canadian military facilities. Our products have withstood the test of time.
  • We use a high-pressure air system to clean holds before shipping. This saves hundreds of thousands of gallons of water each year.
  • We have three textures: Atomik 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0. Depending on the hold, we select the best option to give our customers the most authentic skin comfort climbing experience.
  • Atomik products pass through three quality control stations before being shipped to our customers.

Lifetime Warranty

  • Atomik offers a Lifetime Warranty on our climbing holds. We don't have a warranty department because they would have nothing to do! If a product that does not meet Atomik's high standards is delivered, owner Kenny Matys deals with the issue personally. Kenny focuses on any issue, from design through manufacturing to you chalking up and pulling on the holds. Any problem is immediately handled with the safety of our clientele as the primary criterion to pass and exceed.
  • If you receive a product that doesn't meet Atomik's high standards, owner Kenny Matys will handle your concerns personally. No matter the issue, Kenny will ensure you are satisfied and back to climbing again soon!

The Owner:

Hi, my name is Kenny Matys. I am the President and owner of Atomik Climbing Holds. I founded Atomik in 2002, though my career started as a professional competitive climber in 1989. I am a hands-on executive, consulting daily on climbing wall builds, new product design, and production. I currently fill the Production Manager role, allowing me to experience the quality of the products you receive.

I started climbing in the late 1980s and worked my way to a professional level in elite competitions such as the IFSC's World Cup circuit and the X Games. I competed heavily in Canada and the United States, seeing many 1st place results. My training occurred in Canadian gyms such as Gravity Vault and Joe Rockheads and in Utah, The Rock Garden, The Quarry, and Momentum climbing gyms. During my career, I set routes in over 110 competitions and was a nationally certified route setter by the American League of Forerunners. I played a role in the first wave of gym climbing and was lucky enough to help popularize the sport back then and today. Now, I focus on designing and manufacturing the products we dreamed of when I committed to being a climber for life. Below is an image of my best friend Raj Pal's home wall from the 90s, and the second photo is of Atomik's shop wall today.

What does all this mean for you? With 35-plus years of experience, I have seen everything from hold design to commercial gyms being built. I use that experience to consult and look after your orders daily, which helps me keep my fingers on the pulse of Atomik so that we deliver an exceptional product and a quality customer service experience.

Below are a couple of photos from the early 90s. The first one featured me in Climbing Magazine in an article about the awkwardness of route setting. These were the days before impact drivers and scissor lifts. The second is a picture of Ben Ditto and me competing in Maryland. That was a regional event where I climbed to a 1st place finish in difficulty and a 1st place finish in speed. During that timeframe, I earned invitations to elite events such as the ESPN X Games and competed in many US and Canadian National competitions. I became a top-five Canadian and top-ten US climber during this time.
