These footholds are positive, making them great for beginners to intermediate climbers on vertical walls. They are positive and large enough to force a climber with commercial climbing shoes to stand on with their toe. An advanced climber could use them as handholds, but they work much more effectively as their intended purpose. They worsen as the angle of the wall increases, but they remain pretty positive even in steep terrain.
