Though the anchors can be creatively installed using a nail punch ( drop in anchors ) or a hold and a bolt ( hollow set anchors ), we recommend that you purchase a set tool for your anchors for proper installation.
For the drop in anchors, should you choose to not purchase the punch and use your own tools around the house, pay special attention to not damaging the threads on the anchor.
For the hollow set anchors, should you choose not to purchase a set tool and decide to wing the installation without it, pay special attention to where the anchor ends up once "seated". The anchor should not be flush with the surface of the wall. It should be a minimum of 1/8 of an inch or deeper into the wall. An anchor that is seated flush may position the hold against the anchor increasing the risk of the hold spinning.
