So you are an Ice Climbing maniac. We get that. I have to say Iceholdz has some really cool stuff for dry tooling. They use a plastic type product that you can dig into.
Many of you are leaning towards climbing holds to dry tool on. Well, what I can say about our product is best said below for one of our Ice Climbing testers. Take it for what it is worth as an opinion.
"I'm the guy beating on your dry-tooling mix and they're holding up well. Here's an update:
I can't really notice a difference between the colors but I haven't taken them off to really eyeball them closely. I didn't "de-tune" my picks when I started running laps on these, and the tools seem to set in the mix and hold really well. I have some of the Nicros dry-tooling holds which definitely seem softer, but I can't see where it performs better/worse, one way or the other. I haven't had tools blow off yet, and I figure a harder mix is far more realistic. Every time I place the pick on the Nicros, it reminds me exactly of frozen moss. There's lots of that in New England, but it's almost too safe, if it's okay to say that. Your holds are like hooking in real rock, and it encourages me to very precise and static with the movements. I suppose there is something to be said for either feel, but I'd rather train for the scary conditions...
When hooking the neck of the whole pick over the larger holds, rather than setting the tip of the pick precisely on the smaller dimples, I grind off miniscule, fine bits of plastic as the texture rubs smooth. Subsequent placements in the same place don't keep rubbing more material off, it just seems to shave off the surface texture the first time.
They are okay for climbing on afterwards, but the tools leave SHARP nicks and divots where the placements were. You wouldn't want to take crazy monkey swings onto them unless you have extra calluses you want removed. Eric S."
